You may be familiar with the Sputnik lamp. Like the lamp, the Sputnik table takes its design inspiration from technological modernism. The inspiration of the Sputnik table is seen in the shape of the 1957 Sputnik 1 satellite. The center of the Sputnik 1 satellite consists of a round “joint” with 4 large antennae extending outward. Correctly portraying the antennae, each end of the Sputnik table features 2 external legs reaching down and outward and 2 external arms reaching up and outward from a central orb joint. A center brace extends the length of the table from joint to joint on either end. Crafted of Solid Ash entirely by hand using traditional wood joinery methods, The Sputnik Table is one mid century modern icon paying homage to another. * Joints: Traditional wood dowel joinery & glue * Body: Solid American Walnut * Wood preparation: Wood is kiln dried stabilizing the moisture content * Wood preparation: Hand sanded in 3 steps using coarse, medium and fine grit * Finish: 3 coats water resistant UV cured Polyurethane – no wax * Glass: 12MM thick tempered Glass * Glass Color: Clear no tint * Glass Edge: Slightly honed micro-bevel to reduce edge sharpness * Seating Capacity: Maximum seating for 6 * Construction feature: Glass rests firmly on rubber suction pads * Floor protectors: Equipped with felt pad floor protectors on all 4 legs * Dimensions: Height 31.5″ x Width 31.5″ x Length 63” * Glass maintenance: Wipe with vinegar or glass cleaner * Wood maintenance: Dust with a soft clean cloth
